BLUE HILL — The Blue Hill boys’ basketball team dominated the Superior Wildcats 67-33 Thursday night. Junior Kody Mans, who finished with 18 points and six rebounds on the night, led the Bobcats in scoring.
The Bobcats jumped out to an early 10-3 first quarter lead thanks to six first-quarter points from Mans. The Bobcats’ full court pressure stifled the Wildcat offense and held them to just three first-quarter points.
The story was much of the same in the second quarter. Blue Hill piled on the points during a 16-0 run that carried over from the first quarter. Blue Hill received contributions from Mans, who added seven more points to his total, and Senior Jeremy Henkel, who scored five of his own. Blue Hill led 38-10 at halftime.
After dominating throughout the first half, Blue Hill was able to coast much of the second half. Bobcat big man Jacob VanBoening, recorded a double-double with his 10-point, 11-rebound effort.
Despite the Blue Hill’s strong performance, head coach Joe Hubl says his team still has plenty to improve upon.
“Our defense has got to get better,” Hubl said. “We have to stop drives. We have to limit some of the turnovers and limit some the drives we do give up.”
Blue Hill will look to carry over this momentum against defending Class C-2 champion St. Cecilia on Saturday night in Blue Hill. Superior will look to bounce back on the road against Wilbur-Clatonia on Saturday at 5:30 p.m.
